The story of St. Paul's beginnings |
St. Paul Baptist Church was organized on February 9, 1952. On this very Blessed day, at the New Bethel Baptist Church, Louise St., Dallas, Texas a group of gospel clergymen came together and organized the St. Paul Baptist Church. The sponsoring pastors & churches were: Rev. R.C. McNeal (Bethel Baptist Church and Moderator of the Peaceful Rest Baptist Association), Rev. S.A. Armstrong (Mt Olive Baptist Church), Rev. E.D. Latson (Antioch Baptist Church, Ft. Worth, Tx) and Rev. M.G. Solomon (Oak Hill Baptist Church), there were sixty-three parishioneers present. The newly organized assembly of Christian believers needed a shepherd to lead them, Rev. C.D. Knight was called as pastor & founder of the St. Paul Baptist Church. In August 1953 the property at 1600 Pear Street was purchased, which included a house of worship and a parsonage. The church remained grateful for the many blessings of Christ Jesus, but the facilities were not adequate to meet the needs of the church. On October 13, 1963 St. Paul entered into its present facility. The faithful and blessed works of our first leader was silenced on August 24, 1987. After an esteemed thiry-five year tenure with St. Paul Baptist Church - Our Beloved Pastor, Rev. C.D. Knight basked his transitional journey into Eternal Peace. On February 7, 1988 - Rev. M.V. Henderson then an Associate Minister, was installed as Pastor. The church family continued to increase under Pastor Henderson's leadership. In March of 1991 - A new educational structure was dedicated to the loving memory of late Pastor C.D. Knight. The new structure included 10 classrooms, lounging areas (men & women), a fellowship hall and a library (named in honor of our present Pastor L.A. Johnson). On July 7, 1992 - The Rev. Lelious A. Johnson was called to Pastor the St Paul Baptist Church. He assumed his pastorical duties on August 2, 1992 by delivering his first sermon. Along with pastor came his lovely wife Sis. Carlette Johnson and their four precious daughters: Rachel, Tabitha, Christina and Anna. Our church is currently experiencing tremendous growth both spiritually & numerically to the glory of God. It is our goal to continue to be a purpose driven church - committed to the great commandment and the great commission. |
